Korean Therapist Korean Psychologist Dr. Park LA

Hello, I’m Dr. Soeun Park.

I am a Licensed Psychologist in California practicing psychotherapy, supervision, consultation, and workshop.

I was born and raised in South Korea but traveled far and wide. I lived in Japan for a few years in my early life and grew up in Daejeon and Seoul, Korea. I moved to the US in 2013 for my doctoral degree and have lived in Iowa, Philadelphia, and California. I still love to travel here and there for a short time, but I am happy that I have settled in California!

I see myself as a semi-multipotentialite who is a therapist, teacher, and researcher. All these different roles have one goal - my commitment to support people in creating their own happiness. I am deeply grateful and humbled when I am allowed to witness one’s journey to embrace their true self-worth and find the meaning of life. In other words, I love my job!

I am a believer of "attending to our bodily senses". I enjoy feeling the breeze of California, glazing at the stars in the sky, smelling the woods, listening to my favorite playlists (with a little body moves!), and tasting ever-missed Korean dishes.

If you wonder how I got here, please see below. You can also find my focus areas and approaches here.

Professional journey

  • The beginning

I started my journey as a therapist while attending Seoul National University (SNU) in South Korea. Following the completion of my Bachelor’s degree in Education and Master's degree in Counseling, I worked at various counseling agencies and corporates, including Korea Youth Counseling & Welfare Institute, SNU College of Engineering Counseling Center, and Samsung Electronics.

  • The growth

Coming to the US, I received intensive clinical training as a Ph.D. student in the University of Iowa Counseling Psychology program. Following this, I completed my doctoral internship and post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania Counseling and Psychological Services. At this site, the training involved sexual trauma treatment, eating concerns, and multilingual therapy.

  • The present

Besides being a private practitioner, I am an assistant professor at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, teaching psychology courses for undergraduate and graduate students. I am part of the Society of Counseling Psychology, the American Psychological Association, the Western Psychological Association, the Asian American Psychological Association, and the Korean Psychologists Network.
